Insomnia

by Angelina Wittenstein

Once again, the sky is dark
Once again, my eyes are closed
Yet once again, Hypnos refuses
To let me fall into his soft embrace.

Apollo’s shine has long left the skies
Artemis’ glow now brightens the land
The world is quiet, fast asleep,
Yet here I am, lying wide awake.

How I wish to leave for the land of dreams
To walk among fields of red and green
Poppies lining the paths that I’d tread
Hills and forests in the distance seen

A silent prayer is all I can offer
A promise of appreciation the following day
Praying Hypnos’ grace would fall upon me
To wake up in the morning,
Energized and refreshed.

About the Author: A student of English and German, currently surviving on energy drinks, coffee and pure spite. Rumours say she’s actually three possums in a coat.
