As the Sun is Swallowed

by Vanessa Nina

As the sun is swallowed

By the king’s moondrunk mouth,

I speak to the emptiness

As its servant.

As the sun is swallowed,

I picture it as a gentle taking

Without breaking into.

And I linger, but as perhaps a tree,

Watching from the world’s edge,

Praying she’ll return to me.
